Enlightenment is the end of you. What is surprising about that is that everything you have thought of as you, continues. Feelings arise and fall away, thoughts come and go. Work gets done or not, just as before. The story of you is free to do what it will, as it always was.

You never chose any of it so of course it is the end of responsibility. Which is forgiveness. You were never not love so there is nothing to forgive. Nothing ever happened.

Enlightenment is all there is. You can’t bring about the end of you, so you can’t bring about enlightenment. You can’t bring about what already is. Any attempt to ‘make enlightenment happen’ is the telling of the story that there is something other than enlightenment. And yet, even the telling of the story that there is something other than enlightenment is enlightenment.

Enlightenment doesn’t look anything like you thought it would. It looks like this, whatever this happens to be. It looks like the wind thrashing the trees, the headache behind your eyes, the pathless flight of a bird, the ache in your belly, the sound of laughter, the ripples on the surface of a pond. It looks like decay and it looks like regeneration.

It is all of the known world and yet none of these things separately. It is no one ‘thing’ in isolation. It is nothing being everything. It is all that is ever happening and there is no escape. There is no need for escape because nothing and no one is bound. This is boundlessness.
